A baby shark with a human face baffled fisherman after it was caught off the coast of Indonesia. The mutant creature was landed by Abdullah Nuren, 48, after he set off from Rote Ndao in East Nusa Tenggara, on Sunday February 21. He said he pulled in an adult shark and when cut open its stomach, there were three pups inside. The possum, which had walked into the orangutan's enclosure was pursued before being thrown like a football. 
 
A Perth zoo official told Yahoo that, "I would presume it did not survive the fall. Obviously the loss of any living creature saddens us, but also nature playing out.”
 
You can say that again. Is it our place to pass judgment on a monkey playing games with its new possum friend? We can't assume the monkey had ill intent toward the possum and for all we know they were roughhousing and things got a bit out of control.

"NASA satellite discovers second Earth-sized planet in habitable zone

A second planet has been found in the habitable zone of a star just 100 light-years from our solar system.

Discovered in data from NASAâ€™s Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite, the planet orbits a star called TOI 700, a red dwarf star in the constellation Dorado.

TOI 700 becomes one of very few star systems with multiple, small, habitable-zone planets that astronomers know of.

Red dwarf stars are cooler than stars like our Sun, but much more abundant in our Milky Way galaxy. Red dwarfs account for about 70% of all stars.

The new planet is called TOI 700 e and takes 28 days to orbit its star. About 95% Earthâ€™s size and likely rocky, it orbits in the habitable zone of the star, as does another planet called TOI 700 d, which orbits every 37 days.

A habitable zone around a star refers to an orbit thatâ€™s close enough to be warm enough allow liquid water on the surface. Thatâ€™s crucial because scientists believe life can only exist when liquid water is present.

â€œPlanet e is about 10% smaller than planet d, so the system also shows how additional TESS observations help us find smaller and smaller worlds, which makes the TOI 700 system an exciting prospect for additional follow up,â€� said Emily Gilbert, a postdoctoral fellow at NASAâ€™s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in California, who led the work and presented the findings at this weeks 241st meeting of the American Astronomical Society in Seattle. The same researchers also found TOI 700 d in 2020." - Forbes

"This is how the world ends – not with a bang, but a ‘triple whammy’ event, according to scientists.

A combination of failing food supply, rising sea levels and areas of the planet becoming too hot to live will ultimately lead to almost all mammals, including humans, to die out.

However, the cause may not be what you imagine.

While climate change is a very real threat to today’s population, this apocalyptic scenario, predicted by a supercomputer, will be caused by all the continents crashing into each other to form one giant landmass.

A hot, dry and largely uninhabitable supercontinent – luckily 250 million years from now.

By this point in the future, the Sun will be brighter and warm the Earth more, while the supercontinent formation will lead to more frequent volcanic eruptions that will produce high releases of carbon dioxide (CO2). 

Together this will lead to the Earth being between 40 to 50C. 

Lead author Dr Alexander Farnsworth, from the University of Bristol, said: ‘The newly-emerged supercontinent would effectively create a triple whammy, comprising the continentality effect, hotter Sun and more CO2 in the atmosphere, of increasing heat for much of the planet.’ The international team of scientists applied climate models, simulating temperature, wind, rain, and humidity trends for the next supercontinent. To estimate the future level of CO2, the team used models of tectonic plate movement, ocean chemistry and biology to map out inputs and outputs of the gas.

The model predicts that when the supercontinent – called Pangea Ultima – forms, only between 8% and 16% of the land will be habitable for mammals. 

However, co-author Dr Eunice Lo said it was important not to focus to worry about the future scenario, and instead concentrate on the present.
