The Los Angeles Police Department on Wednesday seized millions of dollars worth of stolen merchandise believed to be Nike sneakers during a raid of a warehouse in Torrance, officials said.

Police Capt. Alfonso Lopez of the LAPD's commercial crimes division said the merchandise was linked to several cargo trucks that had been stolen from a facility near the Port of Los Angeles. He said the cargo truck thefts occurred over a certain period of time but would not disclose further details because he said it would impede in their investigation.

Lopez said thieves made off with merchandise from at least nine cargo trucks. Investigators from various law enforcement agencies tracked the stolen merchandise to a warehouse in Torrance, where a search warrant was served Wednesday evening.

Lopez said investigators recovered stolen products from six of the nine containers. He said the value of the merchandise ranged from $4 million to $7 million. Posted by Abdul

Scientists from Yokohama National University â€” who have been studying hair follicle growth and hair pigmentation â€” generated hair follicles in petri dishes using embryonic skin cells from mice cultured in a special type of gel.

The findings were published Friday in the journal Science Advances.

â€œIf you think of a hair follicle, itâ€™s got the hair down the middle of it and then itâ€™s got layers of epithelial cells around the follicle and other specialized cells,â€� one cell biologist not involved in the study told New Scientist about the breakthrough. â€œThe gel allows these cells to grow in a laboratory in a way that means they can climb over and around each otherâ€� like they do in the body. Peel Regional Police released stunning security camera video Wednesday showing a woman run over a man while allegedly stealing his Porsche SUV earlier this month in Mississauga.

That woman, now wanted for the vehicle theft and dangerous operation causing bodily harm, is captured on the video telling the man she's at his home to see the Porsche Cayenne. Police said she was responding to an Auto Trader ad, and the incident took place at around 2 p.m. on Sept. 6 in the Winston Churchill and Eglinton Avenue area.

She tells the man she's waiting for her dad, but asks to see the vehicle first. The doorbell camera captures a clear image of the suspect, who Peel Regional Police are still trying to identify. When the man moves behind the white SUV, the woman reverses hard and slams into him. The man disappears from view as the SUV races backward onto the street.

Somehow, he bounces up, though he holds his back as he confronts the woman through the window.

The video shared by police doesn't show the SUV driving away, but it was stolen, according to a news release.

Police are also looking for information about the drivers of two other SUVs — one that's silver-grey and one that's blue — in connection with the case.
