On 25 July 1946, the United States conducted the first-ever underwater nuclear explosion. Test Baker, detonated at the Bikini Atoll in the Pacific Ocean, was the fifth of over 2,000 nuclear explosions conducted to date. Of these, only a few were underwater explosions, carried out mainly to assess the damage to ships and submarines. The majority of the tests - around three quarters - were conducted underground and the rest in the atmosphere, apart from a handful of nuclear tests in outer space, such as the 1962 Starfish Prime test.
 
The Baker device was suspended under a ship around 30 metres below the sea surface and yielded 23 kilotons. The test followed the atmospheric Test Able on 1 July 1946, both using the same design as the Nagasaki bomb. The objective was the same: to assess the effects of a nuclear explosion on a fleet of ships and on animals. Both tests were part of the 'Operation Crossroads' that involved some 42,000 personnel, 242 ships, 156 airplanes and the relocation of all 162 residents from the Bikini Atoll.
 
All of the pigs and most of the rats on the ships died either from the blast or from radiation exposure. Of the 57 target vessels, eight either sunk or capsized as a direct result of the explosion. Eight more suffered extensive damage. Most of the remaining ships were highly radioactive and remained so despite decontamination efforts, which consisted of scrubbing or spraying the decks. Their main result was to expose those involved to radioactivity, of which test Baker had produced considerably more than Able. The SpaceX booster rocket for its next-generation Starship spacecraft caught fire on Monday in Texas during a ground-test firing. The explosion was specific to the engine spin start test, consuming the rocket's base in a ball of flames and thick smoke and sending a shockwave rippling through Starbase. There were no reports of any injuries on location.

It can be hard to believe UFO sightings when they're reported and filmed by random people who live by themselves in the middle of nowhere. But when they're filmed by NASA, it's a whole different ball game. 
 
This black object was filmed by a camera aboard the International Space Station for 22 minutes before it moved above the camera's range. Allegedly the object was bus-sized.
 
The UFO bears a striking resemblance to the Black Knight Satellite, an object that some people believe is of extra-terrestrial origins, and has been orbiting Earth for thousands of years. Of course, all of this is just conjecture, but the object was interesting enough for ISS crew to film it for 22 minutes. 
 
"It appears to be going up because it's on a slightly different trajectory as it goes around the Earth," Aren commented. That makes sense, and points to the object being some sort of satellite or even space debris. 
 
"This is some old footage of a hatch cover that floated away," davidandcricket suggested. While that is a possibility, I was unable to find any version of this footage posted before this year. 
 
The ISS is obviously a state-of-the-art operation, and it's frustrating to see its cameras suffer from the standard dip in fidelity when filming UFOs. We'll chock this one up to a satellite.
